Cable bill too high? You may want to think about streaming.

You want to see the latest releases but can't afford or are sick of high cable bills; have you thought of streaming directly from the internet onto your TV?

Right now there are many free and low costs alternatives to cable. If you can live with the local channels and are okay with seeing some of your favorite shows a bit later, this may be the solution for you. If you already own an Xbox 360, Wii or PS3 media player follow the link at Gizmodo.com for easy setup instructions for streaming directly from the internet to your television.

If you don't own any of these devices you will need to purchase a media player but there are several brands on the market  as mentioned in this article also from Gizmodo (do your research to make sure you find the best type for your needs). You will also need:

  • high speed internet service (at least 1.5MB per second)
  • a wireless router
  • an ethernet cable
If  you happen to have some extra cash lying around then you should look into the new internet-ready TV's from Sony and Logitech (you may want wait until the reviews are in).

Netflix has plans where you have access unlimited streaming starting at $8.99 per month (includes movies as well as favorite television series). Not finding what you need on Netflix, check out Huluplus  where you can access many of your favorite tv shows and view current episodes as well full series runs of popular shows all for $9.99 per month. It will still cost you but it is a much cheaper alternative to high cable bills.

Once you have are able to connect the internet through your media player you find access to other sources of content including Youtube, Pandora, Amazon, MLB and on, and on...

You may never look at television the same way again.

Enjoy!
