Need a little boost?

Face it, times are hard these days and it doesn’t seem as if there is an end in sight but there is. Countless times we've weathered storms, battened down hatches, tightened purse strings and saved for that rainy day. Well, that rainy day is here. This site is for those of us who are always on the lookout for that ultimate bargain. You would love to buy that $300 item but can only afford the $30 one. No one needs to know it cost $30 but if we “act as if” the only person who will know the difference will be you! So enjoy and most importantly, "Act As If."

Never Pay Retail Again...

That is part of the tag line on the new online auction site,  Quibids

Quibids, is an amazing new penny online auction that allows you to pay pennies on the dollar for name brand products.

NOTE: Quibids is not at all like E-Bay, the difference with this site is that you buy pre-paid bid packages up front (once you register there are several different packages to choose from).

Auctions start at $.60 cents and you can save up to 95% on products.  Make sure you understand the way the site works before you actually start to place your bids . You may try  your hand at smaller items when you first start in order to get the hang of things. Items don't time out as on E-Bay, each time a new bid comes in it adds time to the clock until all bidding stops. The last person to bid wins.

Once you are familiar with the process of penny auctions, you can't go wrong with this site, and... all items are still under warranty. If you don't win the item you bid on they do have a "buy it now" option where you can apply the cost of your bids to the retail value of the item. Imagine, a Canon Rebel camera for under $20, a Macbook Pro for under $30 - You can't lose!

Happy bidding!

Cable bill too high? You may want to think about streaming.

You want to see the latest releases but can't afford or are sick of high cable bills; have you thought of streaming directly from the internet onto your TV?

Right now there are many free and low costs alternatives to cable. If you can live with the local channels and are okay with seeing some of your favorite shows a bit later, this may be the solution for you. If you already own an Xbox 360, Wii or PS3 media player follow the link at Gizmodo.com for easy setup instructions for streaming directly from the internet to your television.

If you don't own any of these devices you will need to purchase a media player but there are several brands on the market  as mentioned in this article also from Gizmodo (do your research to make sure you find the best type for your needs). You will also need:

  • high speed internet service (at least 1.5MB per second)
  • a wireless router
  • an ethernet cable
If  you happen to have some extra cash lying around then you should look into the new internet-ready TV's from Sony and Logitech (you may want wait until the reviews are in).

Netflix has plans where you have access unlimited streaming starting at $8.99 per month (includes movies as well as favorite television series). Not finding what you need on Netflix, check out Huluplus  where you can access many of your favorite tv shows and view current episodes as well full series runs of popular shows all for $9.99 per month. It will still cost you but it is a much cheaper alternative to high cable bills.

Once you have are able to connect the internet through your media player you find access to other sources of content including Youtube, Pandora, Amazon, MLB and on, and on...

You may never look at television the same way again.

Enjoy!

Easy, affordable online legal assistance that won't break your wallet!

Need a D-I-VO-R-C-E, starting a small business, a will, trademark, patent or filing for bankruptcy then you need to visit LegalZoom.com. Many attorney fees start at $250+ per hour. If you need legal assistance and are living check to check then this may be the answer for you. LegalZoom is not a law firm but a company that provides legal documentation service. There is not a client/ attorney relationship, instead information is provided for you to complete legal documents which helps to keep the costs down. In other words, you represent yourself.

LegalZoom was founded by some of the top attorneys in the country (one of them being Robert Shapiro, yes "that" Robert Shapiro) in order to provide a cost effective alternative to those who probably wouldn't seek council simply because they can't afford it. LegalZoom provides a wide variety of services from complex to simple documents. You can check costs before you purchase and they even provide payment plans on some of the services like bankruptcy; with most practices you have to come up with the money up front. If it all seems overwhelming it isn't, LegalZoom provides step by step instructions and questionnaires to ensure you find the right type of document/ assistance you need. They even provide a great customer care page where you can look up legal terms, find answers to commonly asked questions as well as a toll-free number so you that you can speak to a customer service representative (NOTE: they do not provide legal advice but can assist you with your account, documents, filing status, etc).

Finally, if you are not completely satisfied with their services or support you can contact them within 60 days of purchase and they will correct the situation, provide a refund or offer credit that can be used for future LegalZoom orders.

Obviously if your legal matters are more complex then you should seek out legal counsel but take a look at this site first and see if it can help you and your wallet.

    Simple and Affordable Grocery Shopping

If you haven't yet discovered it, you need to check out Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Markets (those of you over from across the pond know them as Tesco's). Their motto is, "Grocery Shopping the way it should be: Simple and Affordable."
It is just that simple and affordable. Visit their online site and sign up for their exclusive offers, you'll get updates on new products, specials of the week and coupons!!

It is a no-frills store where you do have to ring up and bag your own groceries but that is one of the things keeping the costs down, and trust me, the costs are down. The staff is friendly and helpful. If you do need help they are always on hand to help you ring or bag; toddler throwing a tantrum as you try to check out, you've scanned all your items and can't dig your card out of your bag - we've all been there.

There is a large variety of organic, store brand and brand name products to choose from, I'm a big fan of the wine, cheese and deli aisles. Check back later for reviews on the health and beauty products which I am in the process of sampling.

At this point they are mostly on the west coast, California, Arizona and Nevada but I have a feeling these guys will soon be heading east.
